YAMA FARMS PYGORAS

The Pygora is a pure breed of goat started in Oregon in the '70s. The average adult weighs about 65 lbs which makes them very easy to handle by both children and adults.

PERSONALITY: Pygoras started as a cross between the Pygmy and the Angora. They are now a registered breed with their own national breed association.

Pygoras are naturally horned animals, however, the Pygora Breeders Association allows them to be de-horned. Most breeders choose to de-horn. We at Yama Farms de-horn because we believe it is safer to not have horns around children. Horned animals take more room at the feeder and are more likely to get caught in fences.

Pygoras have the spunk of the Pygmy and the gentleness of the Angora. This makes them fun and easy to work with. They respond well to people and make wonderful pets and fantastic 4-H projects.

The fleece of the Pygora is WONDERFUL!!

Depending on the goat, Pygoras can produce cashmere, mohair, or a blend of these fibers.

The mohair is cool, shiny, and silky. It stays silky even as the goat ages. Mohair type goats get shorn twice a year and produce from 1 to 3 pounds of fiber.

Cashmere type goats produce true cashmere. It is usually combed out so as to leave the guard-hairs. About 1/2 to 3/4 of a pound is harvested.
